How to Find Liwa Camping Locations (Map & Directions)
Quick answer: Liwa's camping happens along the crescent of the Liwa Oasis (main town: Mezaira'a, GPS 23.10°N 53.78°E) and south of it toward Moreeb Dune / Tel Moreeb (22.98°N 53.79°E), the UAE's tallest dune. From Abu Dhabi it's ~250 km / 2½ hours via the E45; the paved Moreeb Dune road continues 25 minutes beyond Mezaira'a and needs no 4x4.

The three camping zones, north to south

1. Oasis fringe (easiest access)

Open sand areas just off the crescent road between the Liwa villages. Small dunes, phone signal, five minutes from Mezaira'a's shops and fuel. Good for first-time DIY campers — but it's also the busiest zone on winter weekends.

2. Moreeb Dune corridor (the classic)

Follow the paved road south from Mezaira'a and giant dunes rise on both sides, with lay-bys and access points along the way. This is festival territory in December–January — regulated, busy, spectacular. The rules that apply here are covered in our Liwa permits guide.

3. Deep Empty Quarter (guided territory)

Beyond the last lay-by, the true Rub' al Khali begins — dunes to 300m, zero facilities, zero signal. Magnificent and unforgiving. This is where our own camps sit, and it is emphatically not a solo-vehicle zone; our safety guide's two-vehicle rule is written for exactly this sand.

Getting there

From Route Time
Abu Dhabi E11 west → E45 south to Mezaira'a ~2 h 30 m
Dubai E11 → E45 (via Abu Dhabi bypass) ~3 h 30 m
Abu Dhabi by bus X60 from Al Nahyan Bus Station to Mezaira'a ~3 h 30 m

No car at all? Every one of our overnight packages includes hotel pick-up from Abu Dhabi, which is how most international visitors do it.
